Snowshoeing in Verbier

Ahh what a great way to walk off the gluttony of Christmas dinner(s)! The joy is that it gives a great excuse for more hot chocolates & left overs after all the cold fresh mountain air!

Targasonne - Eastern Pyrenese

Almost in Spain, almost in Andorra, but not quite..wild granite bolders as far as the eye can see spot the terrain. In winter you can snowshoe or ski at Font Romeu in the mornings and climb in the afternoon! Magical!

Pont d'Espagne - Pyrenese

Right near the resort of Cauterets the wild valleys open up to a plethera of options for hiking.

A geological outing in the upper Val de Bagnes to study the creation of the Alps. There is a spot where you can touch where the African & European continent made contact!

Lac de Mauvoisin

Super day in this wonderful fall we are having. The colors of the lake and the drying grasses with the eventual bright blue gentian poking through were stupendous!

Champéry waterfalls

The val d'Illiez has never looked so pretty. Took a hike in the ravines and on the cliffs. Absolutely gorgeous, we wandered through the chalets to the home of the moss-trolls & fairies (although an English couple, who were lost, didn't see them)

Mt. Fort permafrost

Spent the day with icey people studying the permafrost in the Mont Fort region. After debating climate change and what is happening to the future of skiing, we turned into popsicles ourselves while looking at the temperature readings 20 meters into the Tortin Glacier when it hailed!!

Super hike up through myrtilles (alpine blueberry) bushes! The views to Mont Blanc, Dolent, Combins, Vélan at the top were breathtaking. Let's hope for a gorgeous fall, even though the snow has already started falling..

Vibram five fingers

My toes are blue from picking myrtilles!!
What a fun hike testing out these toe shoes. Really gives you the feel of the earth below and gives your calf muscles a workout (felt it for 3 days!)

Calendula flowers

Busy picking & drying herbs & flowers to make remedies! The calendula flower isn't just pretty, it encourages healing, fights fungal infections, cures diaper rash & helps digestion. Perhaps you need some? Let me know as I am making it into a nourishing cream and will pick more (just need space for drying!!)

Tour des Muverans - Day IV

Col de Demècre to Pont de Nant.
Loooooooooong last day! We rounded the corner with the fabulous Dents du Midi and all the other friendly peaks glowing at us in the sunshine. After a view down to the Lac Léman we puttered & huffed & puffed our way up to the Col des Pierriers Blancs, before the never ending descent of 1300 meters back to the car!
Yippeee & bravo!

Tour des Muverans - Day III

Cabane Rambert to Col de Demècre.
The Grand & Petit Muveran were watching over us as we descended into Ovronnaz. We then took a well deserved dip in the Lac de Fully as the Mont Blanc stood gard. Really beautiful and worthwhile trip.

Tour des Muverans - Day II

Derborence to the Cabane Rambert.
Gorgeous walk through lunar rock piles before arriving at the 360 degree view at the Cabane Rambert. The sunset & sunrise were just astounding. All the Alpes Valaisannes to the Mont Blanc and the Dents du Midi right at the front door.

Tour des Muverans - Day I

Pont de Nant to the Buvette du Pas de Cheville.
We got caught by a rain storm just at the col, right after passing through a bolder & grass field with tiny lakes filled with alpine Salamanders!

Verbier Botza Market

Sunday market in Verbier, I have developed my product line to include arnica creme from flowers of the Grand Combin for your aching muschles, as well as pots of mint & lemon balm tea, and a new mixture of cooking herbs.
To add to the fun I am also selling some lavender sachets which work wonders at keeping bugs out of your long underwear - plus you wont have to wash them all season!!

Mont Fort Sunrise

Meeting arnica! So much fun to hike from the rocky alpine slopes of the col des Gentianes down to the sweet meadows of Verbier. We not only stopped to admire the different flora along the way, but even used arnica flowers where we were hurt!

Forget the sunrise! The full moon was up over the Massif du Mont Blanc at the same time! Absolutely breathtaking and unique!

Friday, July 31, 2009

We set off by chairlift, ahhh what an awesome way to get up, and were then walking in the fresh mountain air with amazing views into the Rhone valley and accross to the Grand Combin. From over here you really can see that it is worthy of being called a 'massif' just like the Mont Blanc.

Monday, July 27, 2009

So my clients asked to see some wild Eidelweiss. The challenge was set...and we ended up in a FIELD of them up by the Mauvoisin dam at the end of the val de Bagnes. A success!

Verbier's off-piste

So much fun to hike where we ski off-piste in the winter. We climbed up the col de Creblet and ate our pic-nic with the stupendous view of the Lac des Vaux, then we traveresed around to be at Col des Mines. Looks mighty different without snow! And I wont even mention the views of the Combins...

Verbier Marché du Dimanche - Botza

Verbier has started a market for regional bio products every Sunday from 9:00 to 13:00 for July & August! What fun it was to meet people and let them know about my walks. So if you don't have a sticker or just want to see me - come on by on Sunday!
