Snowshoeing in Verbier

It has been a beautiful start to 2020 in the world of winter walking and snowshoeing for CherriesWalks!
The snow has not fallen a lot, but it has been super fun to explore!

Sunny skies were basically all we have had since the start of the new year!

Many families have discovered the joys of Verbier on snowshoes!
Snowshoeing along the Bisse du Levron is always stunning!
Snowshoeing at sunset is a fun expedition too!

Snowshoeing in Verbier

Happy 2019!
The snowshoe conditions are fabulous at the moment in the Swiss Alps! The snow is crispy, white and just perfect to take us anywhere we step!
Early morning shadows on the snow are always fun to behold!
Beautiful light shimmering on the snow. It is a great time to observe changes in the snow crystals!
Looking towards the Chamonix Massif just behind Bruson is spectacular. As the snow has settled we have lots of animal prints to study!

Modernized CherriesWalks.com Website

I believe it has taken me about 6 years to finally update my website!
Of course it is because I am always outside!! Yeah, I wish that were my excuse! I am just a really efficient procrastinator. Anything I have to do on my computer comes LAST!
I learned to make soap this summer!

Winter is just around the corner, so I need my snowshoes to be dusted off and my rubber crampons to be 100% functioning. Oh and I need to find my wooly hats, gloves, ski pants, and poles! Yeah, poles are important.

Saved some bees out of Bruson too!

So, before all that activity.....I must re-do my website. I have given myself the 1st of December to publish it. Let's see if I am capable!
Oh, and thanks for your patience!

Sunny snowshoe days in Verbier

The best moments of snowshoeing are often when we are going through a forest. It is the place of hiding spots for non hibernating animals.

Finishing a full day of snowshoe fun with the sunset!
Obseving how the trees adapt to harsh winters and their amazing survival techniques is absolutely mind boggeling!
The views that peek between the Norwegian Spruces are delightful.
The Pierre Avoi as seen from the Clambin area of Verbier.
The cute resort of Bruson and the Chamonix Massif seem so close here!
Sunshine!!

Les Blisiers

Thank goodness this cute summit in the Entremont Valley is not goung to be renamed "les blisters"!

The trees are encased in the powder that just fell on Saturday.
The larches light up with the sun and play brightly on the blue clear sky!
As we reached the summit, approx 2000 meters high, the wind sprinkled sparkles all around us. Lucky us, we even saw some chamois!
A real fairy tale panorama!
The view spans from the Massif des Combins, val Ferret to the Dents du Midi (here) and accross to the Rhône Valley area.
Really worth the drive out of Verbier to be discovered.

Views of the Swiss Alps

2 very different views of the summit of the Grand Combin. Both taken in this crazy sunny winter sunshine weather. The spacial differences of what you can see or cant see as you walk around in the Val de Bagnes is astounding.

Beautiful Bisse de Bruson

Here is a fun walk to do in any weather!

It is a loop in the woods that can be extended or shortened and can also suddenly if the desire hits one, include a peak!

Gushing waters from the mountain tops enter the bisse, which was used in the old days to water the fields so the village would survive winter.
A beautiful hike up to the start of where the water gets captured.
William Besse, a local ski hero, carved this goegeous howing wolf. I hope I can get a group out here on snowshoes this winter, I bet it is quite the sight in the dark!
Dont want to step off here to cool my feet!

Spring Verbier Snowshoeing

Away from the crowds up through the woods we ventured on snow that is crusty in the morning and slushy by midday.

We saw lots of animal tracks. Wild hare, chevreuil, chamois, no camels though...
The impressive massif des Combins and a norwegian spruce tree.
Snow covered renovated mayens, what a view to have every day?! The mont Dolent - Chamonix massif - plateau du Trient.
Pop! Spriiiiiiiing is trying to burst through at 2000m anywhere the snow cover is thin enough!

Snowshoeing Raquettes in Bruson

Just accross the valley from Verbier is the super village of Bruson. The area is definitely fun and diverse enough to play in in any season!
Snowshoeing around the Norwegian Spruces and Larches we found this mushroom hiding under some snow! It is nice to take the time to see things.

Looking down towards the valley floor. We were just above some cute  mayens (wooden huts one goes to in the month of May to graze the cows).  Although today there are no cows and no grass to graze on!!

Still snowing! What a winter! This is ideal!!!

Yet spring is about to burst out in flower according to what is not under the snow today!

Snowshoeing Raquettes in Bruson

I love to snowshoe in my valley! The wooden chalets look like gingerbread houses with frosting at the moment! There were lots of different animal prints to check out. It makes going uphill less tyring if you stop and analyse them!

Looking accross at Verbier and the Pierre Avoi...aaah, just a beautiful morning!
A birch tree with its paper bark unravelling. Do you think early sapiens used it like post-its? "Dear, please bring home a wooly mamoth for dinner soon."??  😀

Snowshoeing in Val de Bagnes Verbier

Yeeehawww! We have just gone to being the driest winter to having more snow than I can play in!
It has been dumping in the Swiss Alps off and on since the 3rd of Jan now!
Some strange creatures live in these forests near Verbier! Make sure you look up even if it means getting snowflakes in your eyeballs.

And then there is the survival of these ferns who came out of the sea, once a long time ago! Look at how much they love the snow too, they are hugging it!! Yeah!

Lots of snow to move around in, have to take advantage when someone has already been by and made a trail. It looks like a few people braved coming out here in the last 2 days.

Snowshoeing to the top of wild wood piles! Not sure the locals would appreciate this...luckily there is rarely so much snow at this altitude.

Enjoying playing with the winter wild conditions!
