Verbier's Avalanches

It rained up high and the mountain has suffered! Apparently the vegetation is 3 weeks behind as we have had such a cold winter. It will be interesting to see how spring pans out.

What I thought would be a leisurely snowshoe outing in Verbier turned into a major expedition when I found out how fit and eager my client was! What fun to do such a long walk so fast! Yippeee!

Beautiful day with tons of animal tracks all over the place! Huge avalanches have gone off above the Savolères - Carrfour road in Verbier. You really need to know where to go and remember that snowshoeing takes place in the mountains. The risks are the same as for ski touring.

Although Verbier seems like it only has new chalets, we managed to snowshoe up to the cow sheds that are still used in summers. There was surprisingly good powder snow too! What a bonus!

Ahhh, first trip this winter up to the end of the Val de Bagnes. Just so peaceful up here. Not sure if we saw a bouquetin (ibex) or if it was just a rock in the sun?!
